Laundry Tips for Bali: What Visitors Should Know (2026)

You've been in Bali for four days. Your suitcase smells like a gym bag. Everything is damp. The white shirt you packed is turning yellow at the collar.

These laundry tips for Bali will save you from the most common mistakes visitors make with their clothes. The article covers how laundry works here, what to watch for at drop-off, how to keep clothes fresh in 85% humidity, and what reasonable pricing looks like in 2026.

How Laundry Works in Bali (It's Different from Home)

Most visitors use local laundry shops. You drop off a bag, the shop weighs it, washes, dries, folds, and you collect when it's ready. The system is built around drop-off rather than self-service.

Pricing is by weight, not by item. Standard wash and fold starts around Rp 15,000 per kilo. A pair of jeans and a t-shirt cost the same to wash, give or take a few hundred grams.

Turnaround ranges from 5 hours to 2-3 days. Express service costs more. Standard 24-hour service is what most visitors use.

Pickup and delivery is widely available. Easy Day Laundry picks up and delivers across Canggu, Seminyak, and Pererenan for a flat Rp 35,000 round trip.

For most visitors, full-service drop-off is the better choice over self-service. Self-service laundromats exist in Bali if you want them, but a drop-off at a full-service shop like Easy Day costs about the same per kilo, saves two to three hours of sitting around waiting, and hands everything back washed, dried, and folded while you're at the beach or in a warung.

What to Know Before You Drop Off Your Laundry

A few small habits prevent most of the things that go wrong.

Get a specific return time, in writing. A reputable laundry commits to a delivery time, not "when it's ready." At Easy Day Laundry, your return time is shown on the digital receipt at drop-off, and we deliver at the time stated. If a shop won't put a specific time on paper, treat it as a warning sign.

Separate delicates before drop-off. Not every shop will sort for you. If you have silk, wool, or anything that says "hand wash" on the label, pull it out and ask for delicate handling. At Easy Day Laundry, delicate items go through a separate hand wash service at Rp 10,000 per piece.

Check pockets. Sunscreen, cash, boarding passes, and house keys do not survive a wash. Sunscreen is the worst offender. It can stain a whole load.

Photograph or note any existing stains so you can track what was treated and what wasn't. Useful if you want stain removal called out as a specific service rather than a general wash.

Ask about detergent. Some budget shops use harsh chemicals that wear down clothes faster. Plant-based detergent is gentler on fabrics and on Bali's water. We use plant-based detergent and softener at all four shops. See our article on why we use plant-based detergent for the full reasoning.

Know what's accepted. Most shops handle everyday clothes, towels, and bedding. Shoes, bags, and heavily structured garments need specialist services rather than a standard wash.

How to Keep Clothes Fresh in Bali's Humidity

Bali sits at 70-90% humidity year-round. Clothes behave differently here than in dry climates.

Don't leave wet or sweaty clothes in a pile. Mould starts within 24 hours. After a beach day or a workout, hang the clothes immediately, even if you're not washing them yet.

Hang worn clothes to air out rather than tossing them straight into a closet or suitcase. A few hours of airflow makes a difference between two and three wears before laundry.

Keep your wardrobe area ventilated. A fan or air conditioning slows mould growth on stored clothes. Sealed closets are the worst environment for fabric in Bali.

Quick-dry fabrics handle Bali better than cotton and denim. If you're packing for a long trip, lean into polyester blends, performance fabrics, and lightweight linen. Heavy cotton stays damp for hours after a humid afternoon.

Towels and swimwear need specific care. Rinse salt and chlorine out after each use. Hang in shade rather than direct sun, which fades colours fast.

Whites, Colours, and Bali's Red Dust

Two stain sources cause more problems than anything else.

Bali's red laterite dust. Especially around Canggu and the rice paddy roads. It gets kicked up by motorbikes and blown around during construction season. It stains white clothes fast and is hard to remove once set.

Solution: separate whites at drop-off. Ask the shop to wash them in a separate cycle if you're particular. A small fee for separated washing is worth the longer life of your white clothes.

Sunscreen. It transfers from skin to collars and necklines, especially on white shirts. The chemical reaction with detergent often turns the stain yellow rather than removing it. Treat sunscreen stains as soon as you notice them, before dropping off the bag.

A practical note: lighter-coloured linen wrinkles and stains more easily in Bali. If you're packing for a longer trip, darker colours and patterns hide daily wear better.
